Students take the New York ELA and Math exams to assess their level of mastery of the Common Core Standards, which are now being implemented in the public school system.
The ELA section tests your child’s ability to interpret informational and literary text and their capacity to write short answer responses and essays relating to these given texts.
The Mathematics section tests general concepts per grade level along with multistep problems. The test consists of multiple choice and open-response word worblems.
The focus is on reviewing all academic material taught in the child’s school, teaching test taking strategies, as well as pacing and timing for the exams.
The Secondary School Admission’s Test (SSAT) is a Standardized Test available for students applying to most Independent and Boarding Schools around the world. The SSAT measures a student’s verbal, quantitative, and reading skills. The Study Shack offers test preparation sessions for the elementary (grades 3-4), middle (grades 5-7), and upper level (grades 8-11) SSAT.
The SSAT is administered by the SSAT Board once a month from October to June.
ERB & ISEE
The Education Records Bureau (ERB) administers the Early Childhood Admissions Assessment (ECAA) on an individual basis. This assessment exam has become a part of the admissions process for most private elementary schools. The ECAA is available to children applying to private schools from Pre-K to grade 4.
ERB Test Prep tutors will assist your child in the review of academic material, in each of the sub-tests given, along with test-taking strategies and time management skills. The Study Shack offers one-on one assistance with students at our Upper East Side and Tribeca locations, or in your home.
The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is administered by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). This exam is recommended for students applying to private schools grades 5-12. We offer test preparation sessions for the lower (grades 5-6), middle (grades 7-8), and upper level (grades 9-12) ISEE. At each level the ISEE is composed of five sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics Achievement, and Essay.
ISEE Test Prep tutors will assist your child in the review of academic materials, along with test taking strategies and time management.
